We were proud to treat hardworking unpaid carers in the community to a free ‘Big Lunch’ event on 15th June.

The event, which formed part of Carers Week, provided an opportunity to celebrate a year of hard work by unpaid carers who support their loved ones.

Unpaid carers enjoyed a five-course Indian banquet at Windsor’s Mango Lounge, as well as benefiting from a health and wellbeing session.

Roisin Holden, one of the unpaid carers who attended, said: “A big thank you for a really wonderful today. All the stories, the advice, the fun and the friendship – as well as the treat of a delicious meal was simply outstanding.”

Angela, another carer, added: “I never felt I needed to be thanked for my care of Jim and others before him, but today I felt very special. I met some very special people. Thank you for that and the lovely meal.”

Ian Rajan, founder of seakr, commented: “The work that carers put in each and every day can often go unrecognised. We wanted to celebrate their dedication and commitment to care whilst helping to build a carer friendly community where everyone can receive the help and support they need.”

Carers Week is an annual campaign which aims to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to society. The Big Lunch, organised by Eden Project Communities, also coincides and aims to get neighbours together to celebrate communities and connections.
